Who We Are

Who We Are

The people’s movement for One Arizona.

In the wake of SB 1070, four immigrant rights organizations came together with the goal of registering 12,000 Latino voters. Shortly afterwards, One Arizona was born.
More than a decade later, One Arizona is made up of 30 organizations active all over Arizona. We are completely nonpartisan, focused on improving the lives of Arizonans, especially people of color and young people, by building a culture of civic participation.

Our Shared Values

One Arizona is a movement born from struggle. We are for the people, by the people. We develop leaders, build power, protect one another and fight as oppressed people in our community through civic participation, mentorship and training. We are fueled by a sense of justice & equity that encompasses the wide intersection of our community’s diversity.

We focus on immigrant rights, voting rights, education equity, racial economic & restorative justice and climate justice. We are in solidarity with all other oppressed people. We are committed to human rights, inclusive of Women, Workers, Immigrants and the LGBTQ community. We imagine a world based on dignity, cooperation and deep democracy, with liberation for all.

We believe in respecting indigenous knowledge – trusting those closest to the pain – and always striving for inclusivity, compassion & transparency.

Because of these values, we operate with a commitment to trust and accountability, constant growth, and reflection, diversity in leadership, alignment, and loyalty. We are focused on systems change: the transformation of people, community, and institutions. We are committed to dynamic organizing, bringing an urgency to our struggle for unity.

Our History

One arizona history

One Arizona was formed in 2010 as a direct response to the growing disenfranchisement of voters and to the attack on our Latinx community in the form of SB1070. Since then, One Arizona has grown to include 30 organizations representing diverse communities across the state, working side by side to build a culture of civic engagement and democratic participation, and registering over 600K voters, and counting. By working together, we’ve created deep and lasting change in the state we call home.

The work we do is not only transformative, but rooted in personal stories of struggle. Many of the leaders of our member organizations were children or young people who saw their families being targeted by SB1070. As we expanded to become a multi-faceted issue organization, we continue to listen to the voices of those impacted and led by the people who have lived through the struggles. That’s why we strive to build long-lasting relationships with community members through ongoing programs, rather than election-only cycles.

Our Approach

One Arizona has a large and representative membership of 30+ organizations encompassing the wide intersection of our community’s diversity. Our partners include organizations focused on immigrant, racial, gender, and economic justice; empowerment of Latinx, Black, AANHPI and Native American communities; voting rights protection; and education equity.

Building a united movement

We help our partners coalesce, toward a more aligned, collaborative, and united movement. Together, we have registered to vote over 600,000 people in the last 6 years and 185,000 in 2020 alone. We also provide training to help build leadership and organizing skills among a new generation.

Empowering local efforts

We work with our partners to amplify their work so our communities can get involved directly with them, uplift the voices of those who are going through the struggle, and ensure synergies across grassroots efforts. One Arizona also offers subgrants to partners interested in working on table programs like voter registration, youth programs, immigration services, census in 2020, covid relief, redistricting work in 2021, and more issues impacting our people.

Providing digital capabilities

We integrate our field work with our digital work, so that we capitalize on network effects and streamline campaign efforts. We helped our partner organizations navigate the digital transformation phase ignited by Covid-19 to meet GOTV campaign goals while building technology infrastructure for the longer-term.

Supporting communication efforts

We also offer access to Progress Arizona, which includes subgrants and a creator’s studio to support our partners with their communications efforts. Through our integrated communications hub, we are also able to build collective power by collaborating on unified campaigns addressing local and federal issues.
